This information was given to the federal employees. By no means do we have the medical background or experience but we thought we could share! It just might help a little!
The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. We will all come in contact with someone with H1N1. What to do. 1) frequent hand washing 2) "Hands off the face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of your face. Unless you are in the shower. 3) Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (or listerine). H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms.Simple gargling prevents proliferation. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful prevention method. 4) Similar to above. Clean your nostrils at least once a day with warm salt water. Blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with a cotton swab dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population. 5) Boost immunity with foods rich in vitamin C. Take vitamin C supplements. 6) Drink as much warm liquids ( tea, coffee, ect) as you can. Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm. The hospital where a friend of ours works handed this information out. I thought it was very useful. Stay healthy, Erich and Kristine Uhlenbrock
